The world's nations are screwing up this planet royally, and I'd like to comment on that in a few key points.
First of all, we can blame our origins for all those little 'sovereign' countries covering almost all of our planet's solid surface. This is unfortunate because it creates differences between countries in the way they are run and they way they treat the world. Being sovereign means they don't have to abide global rules, especially since global rules don't really exist. Yet. It would be much better to arrange a cadre (frame) within which governments get sovereignty. That cadre would present governments with boundaries, but that's too negative a word, so let's call them parameters or base-rules. Such would concern mandatory issues like: environmental impact and control, protection of endangered species, human rights, government and business transparency, animal cruelty control, international economy rules, population control, and international law (enforcement). The less governments there are, the less there is to quibble about in the international playing field. There would be less variables making international relations easier to manage - if management is even possible at this time. A cadre would be even better, but that only works if everyone joins in and sends someone reasonable to discuss the parameters with. Or it needs to be forced upon non-compliant governments, but that is not preferred.
Besides there being many nations with very differing ideas on matters, the governments of most countries are not helping. All governments seem to favour one part of the population and grudgingly agree to throw the rest a bone. They tend to be inefficient, bureaucratic and corrupt. And what is this nonsense about parties? It's almost like a game for power, swaying voters with populistic campaigning and dragging opponents through the dirt, instead of acknowledging the purpose of government which is to manage the country. Parties are looking too much at themselves and how they should be getting more power, instead of working with the other parties towards a better tomorrow. It would be much better if, in democracies, the parties would accept whatever percentage of the voters gave them their blessing and take that up with the other parties to work together taking in all of the people's wishes. It doesn't work to just have a few 'victorious' parties who then rule for four years fucking up the place for everyone who didn't agree with their ideas and ignoring all they stand for. Governments coming from party elections should by definition be omnipartisan (< new word).
There are many politicians I want to slap in the face, just for being stupid.
And then there is the ignorance of the world, where people are raised to be selfish and stupid about everything. Sadly, I sometimes think, everyone is connected in that we all live on this little planet. It is a strange thing that society has individualized so much that it is frowned upon when one person corrects another he may never have met before in public. That shouldn't be so, since this society I live in, is my society as much as it is the society of everyone else living here. If someone is vandalizing a bus stop, that hurts everyone who will use it in the future as well as costing everyone money as it is public transport and paid for by taxes. And of course this issue is bigger than that. It concerns countries. The sovereignty I talked about earlier is the same. Sovereignty is good, but it shouldn't mean countries get to do whatever they want.
Earth is like a balloon. If someone, a group of people, a company, or even an entire country, is pushing needles into it or otherwise damaging its surface; it shouldn't matter how sovereign they think they are or we as a world deem them to be - we should be able to say something about it and correct their behaviour. This is our world and any damage to it constitutes a response from our side, regardless of who causes the damage.
So I'd like to propose the UN gets on with establishing parameters for the cadre to be enforced by a then created Global Government Initiative. GGI will grow above the UN at which point it will assimilate its mother organization. Having its own military force, GGI will make national armies for international use obsolete. It looks better to take a country down collectively then to have just one or two countries spearhead the cleansing. For the first country to try all those brand new state-of-the-art GGI weapons on, I'd like to suggest Japan, if they don't yield. Those damned fools have been going at their devilish antics for too long already, driving whales and the blue fin tuna to near extinction.
By the way, my pneumonia is sinking away nicely.

Good post. I wonder if we all can do anything about it really.
