I'm off for the Northern Whitsun Camp coming friday, we had a ball in Utrecht last saturday where we celebrated Dutch Scouting's 100th anniversary with 25.000 other scouts. There was plenty of eye-candy, but to be honest, my experience of the event wasn't that great - below my expectations, which weren't high to begin with.

I've been a little sick for the past few days since that event, I feel such things coming from afar - this cold has been waiting for its chance to get to me for a week or two. Well, let's hope it is gone by friday... This afternoon I'll be off to the scoutbase to finish up on some theme materials, finish painting them that is.

The leader with whom I'll form the team for the scouts next year and I have debated the present and future problems of scouting a little and decided we'll give up when we don't have permanent assistance by Easter next year. 'Giving up' means not going to the Whitsun Camp and resigning at finishing the Summer Camp (which is with our entire scouting group, so leaders are not a problem). I'm just puzzled where to go from there... The cubs are great, but I'm not sure I want to travel to and from Groningen for them every saturday. The Explorers tend to appeal to my taste for men, but giving in to the pretty boys by becoming their leader might not be the best idea either. Though the explorers are an important group because that is where they are (supposed to be) steamed ready for leadership themselves. It would be good to have a strong leader like myself there...
I'm even considering leaving my old scouting group (which I have been a part of for almost 12 years now) for one here in Groningen. But we'll see what the future brings. I do really hope that we can keep our scouts going.
In other more cheerful news, my not-as-young friends 'the gay preacher' and his husband recently invited me for one of their other young friends' birthday. I met this stunning miller there who studies history. A very cute and butch guy (blond of course). When I was on my way to the Red Cross annual meeting before going to the party, I watched him get off the bus and remember thinking "my, that's one very cuddly kind of guy". Seeing him again reassured me: not all the best men are straight.

And I really think English should stop using capitals for the days of the week.

What's the possibility of just being a scoutmaster of a teen boyscout troup in Groningen?

The days of the week are capitalized in english as a result of its strong saxon roots. It seems as though the german language and its dialects capitalize most words.

The Germans are more insane than the English concerning capitals. All nouns have capitals in German.

There aren't a lot of boys-only scouting groups left. Children are like a unisex group of people, though I admit I care more about boys than girls - I don't know why, actually.

And I don't think any scouting group will make me scoutmaster upon arriving, perhaps after a year of proving them I'm good enough.
