HBO-V?

Another ominous abbreviation: HBO-V. This time it's less negative, I promise.

Since I've started to get used to the idea of leaving English, another option has arisen. If the switch to Dutch takes too long to wait for, read: until the start of the new year (after the summer vacation); I'd rather do something completely different.

I'm leaving English because I was stunned by my bad Dutch and decided I should preserve my own language before I try to preserve another. But I'm the kind of guy that really cares for other people, I like caring for other people. So I'm thinking, if Dutch leaves me without school for half a year, I'd much rather start HBO-V. HBO-V is the nurse school, so if Dutch fails to attend to my needs on short notice, I'm going to be a (male) nurse.
Mainly it's because I've loved every second of being in the Red Cross. I've also, just tonight after the intake, been accepted into the course of the HOC, to become a disaster relief medic. And 'nurse' might give you the wrong idea, I'm not going to wash old people front to back - I get to do much more exciting stuff since I'm on a higher level of education. And really, I wouldn't want to wash old people - period. Right now I'm still high from the intake, so it might sound like I really just want to be a nurse and don't care much for teaching. But both still need some thought and I'll first talk to my mentor (of the English lot) to see what would be best to do now.

I also have a question pending with the local HBO-V school to see whether they'll let me in, since I've never received any education in chemistry or biology of a significant level. So I might first have to pump up those two subjects before they'll give me the go. I could do that in the half year which lies between now and the end of the summer vacation. If there is no need for that, I'll probably work in the Civil Engineering branch until I can start school (I have to live off something if I'm not in school). But we'll see about that.

And thanks, to all, for those helpful comments on the HSP post. I'm feeling far less worried about this now that I have given it a place in my mind and have thought about it so much. I might still see a shrink or coach, after I visit the physician with these troubles of mine.

Good luck on whatever you wish to do brother. You would be a great nurse I am sure.

I think a career as a nurse is a very wise and practical one, and I urge you to pursue it. My mother was what is known in North America as Registered Nurse, which takes 4 years of training to graduate and qualify for the state licensing exam.

You used to boast on here about how superior your command of Dutch grammar is compared to many other Dutch speakers, including some teachers, so why the inferiority complex over it now?

Well, my Dutch is still far better than most Dutch, but it is not really 'good'.

I make many mistakes, in writing and speech. And I don't understand the grammar behind many issues.

My grammar isn't good. The grammar of the other Dutch people is so bad.
